Arlington Dogs
Everything Arlington Dog Owners Need to Know
Owning a dog is a rewarding experience that many Arlington County citizens enjoy. Arlington is quite a dog-friendly environment with tons of outdoor activities and resources for dogs and their guardians including parks, specialty pet shops, dog parks and more.
One of Arlington dogs' favorite passtimes is playing in the parks created especially for them. The County of Arlington has provided several dog parks throughout the county where friendly dogs are free to roam and play off leash while their guardians meet their dog-friendly neighbors.
Arlington also boasts several public parks where dogs may take supervised, leashed strolls with their friends. Bluemont Park, in particular, is home to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington's annual Walk for the Animals fundraiser, held each May to kick off Arlington's Neighborhood Day.
When Arlington dogs care to go shopping, the County is also home to some great specialty shops and services for dogs. aka Spot in Clarendon is a fun boutique offering fine accessories for your pampered pooch. Fur-Get-Me Not offers a variety of services including a do-it-yourself pet wash to help keep your mutt fresh. Arlington is also home to some great dog obedience trainers including WOOFS! Dog Training and Fur-Get Me Not. There are also several dog walking, sitting and daycare services available and tons of pet-friendly housing for dog-loving families.
The vet care in Arlington is also top notch! Several of the Arlington vets are very generous, too, volunteering their time to the Arlington animal shelter.
Of course, it's not always easy caring for a dog and guardians, even those in Arlington, sometimes need a little extra help. In addition to the plethora of dog obedience trainers, the Arlington animal shelter offers a free behavior helpline and care and training resource library for owners in need of good advice. The shelter also offers low-cost rabies clinics, low-cost spay/neuter services and other aid for dog owners who need some help keeping their dogs in good health.
Arlington dogs and their guardians are very fortunate to live in such a pet-friendly environment but with such a dog-friendly place come rules and regulations to ensure that all citizens may coincide peacefully and happily. In order to comply with Arlington animal laws, be certain to license your dogs, vaccinate them for rabies, keep them on leash (when not in a community dog park), and pick up after them. These simple rules ensure that all citizens may enjoy everything Arlington has to offer, including the dogs.
If you care to join the scores of dog-loving families in Arlington, consider adopting your own Arlington dog. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is just one of many shelters and rescues in the area and we have some great dogs waiting for you!
