Deputy Animal Control Officer

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Good physical condition, ability to safely lift at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to receive pre-exposure rabies vaccinations
  • Ability to work well with the public
  • Must live within easy proximity to Arlington
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Investigate all complaints of cruelty to animals and violations of state and local laws pertaining to keeping, raising and housing of all animals, both domestic and wild
  • Enforce Arlington County’s dog leash law and all other Animal and Fowl codes
  • Assist other agencies in the county in resolving complaints pertaining to animals
  • Investigate barking dog complaints and issue written warnings for violations of the county noise ordinance
  • Investigate animal bite complaints, implement and release domestic animal quarantines, prepare and deliver specimens for rabies testing
  • Work directly with the Commonwealth Attorney to prosecute violators of the Animal and Fowl code as well as the Comprehensive Animal Laws of Virginia
  • Conduct educational presentations to schools, civic associations and other organizations
  • Respond to emergency calls after hours on a rotating schedule

Administrative Associate

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school graduate or equivalent, college degree preferred.
  • Ability to work well with volunteers, staff and general public.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office applications and have other database experience.
  • Flexibility in schedule to include weekend and evening work.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Administrative Associate reviews adoption applications, serves as a receptionist to the public seeking adoptions or needing help with animal problems. He or she is responsible for providing educational information and answering a wide range of questions from the public. In addition, he or she performs various clerical duties. Detailed Responsibilities
  • Review adoption applications and make final decision on placement of animal providing the appropriate requirements are met.
  • Receive and release animals and process appropriate forms.
  • Maintain lost and found animal files and compare lost, found, and in-shelter files daily for potential matches.
  • Assist the animal control department by dispatching animal calls and answering the questions concerning wildlife and the County's animal laws.
  • Answer the League's phones. Provide information and/or refer the public to the proper person or agency.
  • Provide administrative support for managerial staff as needed.
Reports directly to the Manager - Finance & Administration.
