Development Administrative Assistant (Part-time)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee and process donations including data-entry, acknowledgment, and reporting
  • Manage the tracking and reporting of United Way,CFC, and online donations
  • Respond to donor requests and inquiries through telephone and/or written correspondence
  • Assist in the running and planning of special events
  • Front desk and adoption counseling (approximately 20% of time)
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Development
QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be an energetic and innovative professional who can perform, with resourcefulness and initiative, across multiple projects with volunteers and staff to meet goals, objectives, and deadlines. The applicant must be comfortable working in a team setting and capable of working independently.

Applicants must have a high school degree or equivalent, excellent communication skills, including the ability to write and speak effectively, ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and flexibility in their schedule to include some evening and weekend work. Customer service skills are essential. The candidate must be proficient in MS Office applications. Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and PetPoint is a plus. The ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

The majority of the working hours must be Monday-Friday between 8 am and 5 pm.

Animal Care Technician

GENERAL RESPONSIBILTIES

Animal Care Technicians provide daily care and feed the animals. They are responsible for maintaining the kennels in a manner which provides a healthy and pleasant environment for the animals. They provide assistance to the other animal care personnel and the general public as detailed below.
  • Care for animals in the shelter
  • Flexible work schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Clean and disinfect cages and kennels of all animals on a daily basis. Keep kennels as clean and dry as possible throughout the day.
  • Feed animals and note eating habits to ensure each animal is well fed.
  • Give physical exams to incoming animals: check ears, check for fleas and ticks, and administer vaccinations and medications as needed. Bathe animals as needed.
  • Work with our medical team to discuss animal health and treatments. Medicate animals as recommended by a veterinarian.
  • Administer first aid to any injured animal as appropriate. Inform appropriate manager or Director of any animal needing professional health care.
  • Become certified in euthanasia technique by a veterinarian after training. Assist in euthanasia and perform as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining the shelter grounds including but not limited to picking up trash, mowing the lawn, shoveling snow and pulling weeds.
  • Clean kitchens and common areas. Remove trash.
  • Learn to use and enter information into the shelter’s computer database.
  • Admit animals after hours and as needed to assist office staff during office hours.
  • Handle calls and requests from the public.
  • Assist the public in becoming acquainted with animals for adoption.
  • Monitor animal activities to determine personality and behavior traits and record this information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma
  • Ability to work well with volunteers, staff and the general public
  • Ability to receive the rabies prophylaxis
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to learn and use shelter computer software
  • Ability to lift objects or animals up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stretch or climb for several hours at a time.
  • Must have an enthusiastic, optimistic attitude
