Pet Loss Support Group Meetings in Arlington
The Animal Welfare League of Arlington will begin offering Pet Loss Support Group meetings at the animal shelter at 2650 South Arlington Mill Drive on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. (Dates and times are subject to change; please call before coming.)
"People often experience the same depth of emotion over the loss of their pets as they do over losing important people in their lives. When a companion animal has been a member of the family, the loss can leave a huge hole," says Kay Speerstra, Executive Director of the League. "At times like this it helps to share your grief with other people who are going through the same experience. A compassionate support group can help in your journey through the landscape of grief."
The free support group meetings are open to anyone experiencing the following situations:
- Did your pet recently die?
- Are you considering euthanizing your pet due to age or illness?
- Is your pet suffering from a terminal disease?
- Did your pet run away or was your pet lost?
For further information, call the League at 703-931-9241 x246 or email petlosssupport@awla.org.
Support offered in this group is based on the best available knowledge related to pet loss but not meant to be construed as professional counseling.
