Walk for the Animals FAQ’s
- Is my registration fee tax deductible?
All pre-registered walkers receive a t-shirt and bandana with an estimated fair market value of $10. Therefore, $15 of the $25 registration fee is tax deductible. In addition, any money you donate on top of the $25 fee is tax-deductible. Remember, your $25 fee will count towards the $75 and $150 premium levels, so please don't stop at $25!
- If I volunteer for the event, do I still have to pay the registration fee?
All volunteers for the event must pay the registration fee. The $25 fee goes toward the cost of putting on the Walk; all of the money that is raised in pledges goes to help the animals. We hope you will volunteer and get pledges, too.
- What is the benefit of registering online?
- You won’t have to remember to bring your form & money to the Walk and you won't pay the increased on-site registration fee.
- You will be able to create your own Web site and then contact your friends and family by email to ask for donations.
- You will be able to see how much you have raised at any time and challenge your friends at the League to keep up with you!
- When your friends and family pledge money online, they will automatically receive a personalized acknowledgement from you that also doubles as a tax receipt.
- Do I have to pay online? Do my pledgers have to register online?
- You do not have to register online. If you prefer to register by mail, you can request a registration form and you can register and sign up pledges on paper. With this option, you will be responsible for copying the pledge form and giving copies to each of your pledgers. Up until the day of the Walk you will have to bring these forms and the donations to the League. Any last minute forms can be brought directly to the Walk. Please remind your pledgers to keep a copy of their donation forms for their tax purposes because their donations are 100% tax deductible. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
- Your pledge supporters may also enter their information online and mail in a check or give you a check.
- Do I need to register online if I only want to participate in the Walk and not collect pledges?
If you wish to participate in the Walk and not collect pledges, you may still register online. Setting up your own Web site is optional.
- If I am not able to attend the Walk, may I still make a donation in support of AWLA?
Absolutely! You may go online and choose the General Walk Donation category. Or, you may send a check made payable to Animal Welfare League of Arlington. Send your check to Attention: Walk 2008, 2650 S. Arlington Mill Drive, Arlington, Virginia 22206.
- If I pay online, is it secure?
AWLA has contracted the services of Kintera,(a marketing infrastructure service provider offering advanced Internet fundraising solutions to charitable, educational and politicalorganizations) to make sure that every effort is made to protect your information. They use industry-standard SSL encryption techniques to make sure that your credit card information, passwords, and personal information travel securely over the Internet. They have also installed an encryption engine on their database server so that your data is securely stored.
- May I register on-site on the day of the Walk?
You may register on the day of the Walk, however, the registration fee is $40 for adults and children over 12. The fee for children six to 12 years old is still $5, and children under six are free. Pre-registration guarantees that the walker will receive the T-shirt and bandanna. We cannot guarantee that on-site registrants will receive the T-shirt and bandanna; it will be first come, first served.
- May I sign up for a specific volunteer job assignment online?
Yes. Please go to the Volunteer Registration section.
- If I know a business or company that may want to sponsor the Walk, what do I do?
You may direct them to the site at http://awla.kintera.org/walk2008. There is a section called Sponsorship Opportunities and they may fill out the form online. You may also leave a message for Kelly Blakemore at (703) 931-9241 Ext. 216 and she will follow up with the business.
- How does Animal Welfare League of Arlington utilize the contributions?
To get more information on how the Animal Welfare League of Arlington uses contributions, please email donate@awla.org. You can also visit our Web site and view our Annual Report at http://www.awla.org/newsletter-fall-2007.pdf or call us at (703) 931-9241 x216 for more information.
- How can I see who has donated to me?
Go to the log-in section of the site. Use the username and password that you received when you registered for the event. You can view your donor list and the amounts that each one has donated.
- All of my Donors are not showing up on the scroll mechanism. Why?
As your Donors make a contribution, they have the option of whether or not they want to appear in the recognition scroll.
- If someone gives me a check, can I enter it online?
Yes. Just go to My HQ, sign in, Go to Use Tools, Click Pledge History, Enter Pledge Button and then use that form to enter any off-line donations.
