A native of Louisiana, Dr. Katy Nelson was raised on a small farm in the heart of the state where her childhood was filled with many beloved pets. She earned her veterinary degree in 2001 from the Louisiana State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and is a Certified Veterinary Journalist (CVJ). Dr. Katy practices at Belle Haven Animal Medical Center and is also Chewy’s Resident Veterinarian. She lives in Alexandria with her husband, their son and daughter, and pets Mookie Betts, a Labradoodle saved from an Ohio puppy mill, Eddie Underbite, a Shih Tzu mix rescued from a Maryland drug house, and Ouizer Boudreaux and Shelby Latcherie, two parakeets adopted from AWLA.
