Jose’s love for animals started at a very young age in Puerto Rico. Growing up, dogs, cats, birds, fish and more were always a part of the family. Jose’s parents encouraged him to care for stray cats and dogs – letting dogs sleep in the front yard and feeding stray cats in the neighborhood. In adulthood, that same love for animals brought him into a career in animal welfare with AWLA. He started as an Animal Control Officer, moved to the Adoptions Dept, and is now settled into the Animal Care Dept as the Animal Care and Facilities Manager. Jose is humbled and feels privileged to work with the other Animal Care Technicians caring for all the animals that come through the doors.
