DESCRIPTION:Every year\, thousands of animals are turned into shelters by parents concerned about how their pet may affect the health and safety of their new baby. Any pet can have undesirable\, although natural reactions to a new baby. New sounds\, smells\, and activities surrounding an infant may cause a pet to see the baby as competition\, prey\, or even a toy. \nBaby-Ready Pets offers preparation and assistance to help expectant families prepare their home and their pets for the arrival of the new baby and to make sure that it is a safe and (relatively) stress-free experience for all. This seminar is based on a program created by the Providence Animal Rescue League and the Rhode Island SPCA\, and has been endorsed by the ASPCA. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington?s staff will present Baby-Ready Pets for expectant parents in a two-hour workshop at the League. \nAfter the program\, participants may call or e-mail follow-up questions if they need additional support. Participants will also receive helpful handouts and a CD of baby sounds to help desensitize their pets to the sounds of the new arrival. This is a HUMAN-ONLY class\, please leave your pets at home. \nThere is no fee for the class\, but donations are welcome. Reservations are required and space is limited. Without it\, your pet will receive a one-year shot. Waiting is outdoors\, so please dress for the weather. All dogs must be on leash and cats must be in carriers. \nGive your pet the protection of a 24PetWatch MiniChip. At one third the size of standard microchip technology\, the 24PetWatch MiniChip is the right size for every pet\, including cats\, kittens\, and small breed dogs which often go without microchip protection. \nBecause this is the first clinic of 2014\, we expect a crowd. We will serve as many people as possible during the two-hour clinic\, but will have to end at 8:30pm. Other options for low-cost vaccinations are Luv My Pet\, Potomac Spay Neuter Clinic\, and the Fairfax County reduced cost rabies clinics (703-691-2131).

SUMMARY:SPAY/NEUTER Voucher Sales-Lowest Price of the Year!
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with World Spay Day\, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington and designated animal hospitals/clinics will be offering the lowest spay/neuter prices of the year for pets of low-income clients in the Washington DC metro area.  Vouchers are still available and will be sold or until we run out. The surgeries will take place at area veterinary facilities in Northern Virginia. Participating vet clinics include Potomac Spay/Neuter Clinic\, NOVA Cat Clinic\, Caring Hands Animal Hospital(Alexandria Location) and Arlington Animal Hospital. \nPet owners must meet the annual household income requirement of $60\,000 or less (proof of household income is required) plus they must be available to drop off their animal the morning of the surgery and pick up their animal late afternoon/early evening of the same day. \nOur special Spay Day pricing will be: $25 for Male Cats\, $50 for Female Cats and $75 for Dogs (Male or Female)….the League and vets will be subsidizing the rest of the cost of the surgeries per animal.  Discounted vaccines will also be available on the day of surgery.  Owners are required to purchase their voucher at our shelter and schedule their pet’s surgery directly with the animal hospital/clinic. \nWe will have a limited number of vouchers available and they will be sold in person on a first-come\, first-served basis.  Please bring the proof-of-income (i.e. signed copy of most current tax return\, W-2 statement(s) or social security/disability documentation) when purchasing your voucher – cash or credit card only (no checks).  If you have any questions\, please call the front desk at (703) 931-9241 for immediate assistance or email Adrienne Mintz at amintz@awla.org.

DESCRIPTION:Every year\, thousands of animals are turned into shelters by parents concerned about how their pet may affect the health and safety of their new baby. Any pet can have undesirable\, although natural reactions to a new baby. New sounds\, smells\, and activities surrounding an infant may cause a pet to see the baby as competition\, prey\, or even a toy. \nBaby-Ready Pets offers preparation and assistance to help expectant families prepare their home and their pets for the arrival of the new baby and to make sure that it is a safe and (relatively) stress-free experience for all. This seminar is based on a program created by the Providence Animal Rescue League and the Rhode Island SPCA\, and has been endorsed by the ASPCA. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington?s staff will present Baby-Ready Pets for expectant parents in a two-hour workshop at the League. \nAfter the program\, participants may call or e-mail follow-up questions if they need additional support. Participants will also receive helpful handouts and a CD of baby sounds to help desensitize their pets to the sounds of the new arrival. This is a HUMAN-ONLY class\, please leave your pets at home. \nThere is no fee for the class\, but donations are welcome. Reservations are required and space is limited. SUMMARY:ASPCA Mega Match-a-thon
DESCRIPTION:The Animal Welfare League of Arlington\, Montgomery County Humane Society\, the Washington Animal Rescue League and the Washington Humane Society will participate in the 2013 ASPCA “Mega Match-a-thon” event\, which will take place Saturday\, Oct. 19\, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.  Montgomery County Humane Society\, the Washington Animal Rescue League and Washington Humane Society will bring more than 200 adoptable animals together at the Washington Animal Rescue League’s shelter to find homes for as many of these wonderful animals as possible.  The Animal Welfare League of Arlington will participate at our shelter. \nAll four organizations have reduced their adoptions fees for the event.  Dogs will be available for $50.  All cats will have an adoption fee of $25.  Applicants can download adoption applications and bring them to the League for same-day adoptions. All available animals will be spayed/neutered and microchipped.
