DESCRIPTION:Every year\, thousands of animals are turned into shelters by parents concerned about how their pet may affect the health and safety of their new baby. Any pet can have undesirable\, although natural reactions to a new baby. New sounds\, smells\, and activities surrounding an infant may cause a pet to see the baby as competition\, prey\, or even a toy. \nBaby-Ready Pets offers preparation and assistance to help expectant families prepare their home and their pets for the arrival of the new baby and to make sure that it is a safe and (relatively) stress-free experience for all. This seminar is based on a program created by the Providence Animal Rescue League and the Rhode Island SPCA\, and has been endorsed by the ASPCA. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington?s staff will present Baby-Ready Pets for expectant parents in a two-hour workshop at the League. \nAfter the program\, participants may call or e-mail follow-up questions if they need additional support. Participants will also receive helpful handouts and a CD of baby sounds to help desensitize their pets to the sounds of the new arrival. This is a HUMAN-ONLY class\, please leave your pets at home. \nThere is no fee for the class\, but donations are welcome. Reservations are required and space is limited. To make a reservation or for more information\, please e-mail amintz@awla.org or call (703) 931-9241 x246 with the following information: \nthe number and type of pets that you have in your home (including breed and size);\nyour approximate due date;\nyour phone number and email address;\nthe number of people attending. \nYou will receive an e-mail to confirm that space is available and you are registered.

SUMMARY:Baby-Ready Pets
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, thousands of animals are turned into shelters by parents concerned about how their pet may affect the health and safety of their new baby. Any pet can have undesirable\, although natural reactions to a new baby. New sounds\, smells\, and activities surrounding an infant may cause a pet to see the baby as competition\, prey\, or even a toy. \nBaby-Ready Pets offers preparation and assistance to help expectant families prepare their home and their pets for the arrival of the new baby and to make sure that it is a safe and (relatively) stress-free experience for all. This seminar is based on a program created by the Providence Animal Rescue League and the Rhode Island SPCA\, and has been endorsed by the ASPCA. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington?s staff will present Baby-Ready Pets for expectant parents in a two-hour workshop at the League. \nAfter the program\, participants may call or e-mail follow-up questions if they need additional support. Participants will also receive helpful handouts and a CD of baby sounds to help desensitize their pets to the sounds of the new arrival. This is a HUMAN-ONLY class\, please leave your pets at home. \nThere is no fee for the class\, but donations are welcome. Reservations are required and space is limited. Team Rescue Tails was started in 2014 as a charity racing and fundraising team for the Animal Welfare League of Arlington (“AWLA”). Rescue Tails hit the ground running to help AWLA celebrate its 70th year of saving animals’ lives in Northern Virginia and the Washington\, DC area. \n\nRescue Tails athletes are runners\, triathletes\, cyclists\, and other athletes who want to combine their love for animals with their passion for racing. Through their fundraising efforts\, Team Rescue Tails supports AWLA’s mission to improve the lives of animals and create a world where all companion animals can find compassionate and permanent homes. SUMMARY:4th Annual Fall Fair Animal House
DESCRIPTION:The Animal Welfare League of Arlington’s 4th Annual Fall Fair Animal House will be held Saturday\, September 6\, 2014 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm in the parking lot of the shelter.  Everyone in the community is invited to come enjoy games\, music by DJ Ruben and meet the adoptable animals we have here at the shelter.  Local businesses will be here at the League with giveaways and information\, and AWLA staff will be available to go over the adoption process or answer other questions about the shelter. \nFrom 1pm – 3pm we will holding a microchip clinic for dogs and cats.  Microchipping is $30 per pet and the fee includes the initial registration with the microchip company. \nAdditional Details: Parking will not be available in the shelter parking lot\, but street parking and parking in Shirlington will be available.  The shelter will be open as usual from 12-4pm.  There is no entry fee for the fair.  Friendly dogs on flat leashes (not flexi leashes) are invited.  There is not a rain date for this event.  If the weather looks bad\, please call 703-931-9241 to confirm whether we will still be holding the fair. \nParticipating Vendors:\n     \n \nIf your business would like to participate in the fair please contact jwillems@awla.org.
