SUMMARY:Baby-Ready Pets Class
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, thousands of animals are turned into shelters by parents concerned about how their pet may affect the health and safety of their new baby. Any pet can have undesirable\, although natural reactions to a new baby. New sounds\, smells\, and activities surrounding an infant may cause a pet to see the baby as competition\, prey\, or even a toy. \nBaby-Ready Pets offers preparation and assistance to help expectant families prepare their home and their pets for the arrival of the new baby and to make sure that it is a safe and (relatively) stress-free experience for all. This seminar is based on a program created by the Providence Animal Rescue League and the Rhode Island SPCA\, and has been endorsed by the ASPCA. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington’s staff will present Baby-Ready Pets for expectant parents in a two-hour workshop at the League. \nAfter the program\, participants may call or e-mail follow-up questions if they need additional support. Participants will also receive helpful handouts and a CD of baby sounds to help desensitize their pets to the sounds of the new arrival. This is a HUMAN-ONLY class\, please leave your pets at home. Baby-Ready Pets sessions are from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington\, 2650 S. Arlington Mill Drive. \nThere is no fee for the class\, but donations are welcome. SUMMARY:AWLA 2018 Kid's Club Registration is OPEN!
DESCRIPTION:AWLA’s 2018 Kid’s Club is for children ages 10-13 years old. \nAWLA 2018 Kid’s Club members will meet monthly on scheduled Mondays in 2018 to learn about how AWLA operates\, meet AWLA staff and/or area animal welfare professionals (at select meetings)\, learn about animals in our care and much more. Kids club members will also assist in special service projects that help AWLA and our animals! \nRegistration is now open for AWLA’s 2018 Kid’s Club for kids ages 10- 13 years old.   Registration is required and space is LIMITED.  Registration is $120 per child for 2018 (includes participation in all of AWLA 2018 Kid’s Club meetings and activities).  AWLA Kid’s club members will also receive an AWLA Kid’s Club T-shirt that  Kid’s Club members help to design! \nAll AWLA 2018 Monthly Kid’s Club meetings will include time for animal interactions but we are not able to advertise what type of animal the kids will interact with in advance as we do not know who we’ll have available that will be age-appropriate.  Note: If your child has severe allergies to cats\, dogs\, or small companion (bunnies\,ferrets\, guinea pigs\, birds\, etc.) animals this may not be an appropriate club for your child. \n  \nAWLA’s 2018 Kid’s Club scheduled dates are as follows: \nJanuary 29\, 2018\nFebruary 26\, 2018\nMarch 19\, 2018\nApril 23\, 2018\nMay 21\, 2018\nJune 11\, 2018\nJuly 2\, 2018\nAugust 20\, 2018\nSeptember 10\, 2018\nOctober 22\,2018\nNovember 19\, 2018\nDecember 17\, 2018 \n  \nRegistering for AWLA’s 2018 Kid’s Club: \n  \nAWLA’s 2018 Kid’s Club is now FULL.  To wait-list your child\, please go here. \nShould you have any questions about AWLA 2018 Kid’s Club\, please reach out to Jennifer Newman\, Director of Community Programs at (703) 931-9241\, ext 213. \n  \n  \n

After you finish your creations\, you can walk through the shelter and take a look at all the adorable adoptable animals your hard work will help over the next few months! We’ll also have a shelter scavenger hunt you can participate in (with prizes!). Attendees will need to bring their own supplies – you can choose from three different enrichment activities to make (or make all three!): \nStuff a Kong for a Dog\nYou will need to bring:\nKong toy (any size\, can be purchased from any pet store or online)\nSmall can of wet dog food (any brand) OR Kong Stuff’n Easy Treat (or Cheese Whiz) \nMake a Puzzle for a Cat\nYou will need to bring:\nToilet paper or paper towel tube(s)\nCat treats or catnip (or both)\nOptional: tissue paper box \nMake a Brown Bag Lunch for a Bunny (or Guinea Pig\, etc)\nYou will need to bring:\nBrown paper bag(s)\nOld newspaper\nCheerios\nOptional: dried banana (no sugar added)\, timothy hay \nBring your items on December 22nd anytime between 1pm and 4pm and we will show you how to make an awesome enrichment toy for a shelter pet!
