SUMMARY:Low-Cost Rabies and Microchip Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Get your pets their vaccines or a microchip at AWLA!  \nAWLA offers rabies vaccines\, distemper vaccines (DAPPv for dogs and HCPCh for cats)\, and microchips for cats and dogs. \nThese clinics are by reservation only. You must sign up in advance for a designated time. Sign-ups for this clinic will open on December 1 at noon. \nClick Here To Sign Up \nRabies shots are $15\, distemper shots are free\, and microchips are $35. \n\nNO CASH\, card payment only.\nAll humans must wear a mask at all times and maintain an appropriate distance of at least 6 feet in all situations.\nIf you arrive after your designated time\, you will lose your spot.\nAll dogs must be on a leash\, and all cats in carriers. Retractable leashes are not allowed.\nIf your pet is reactive to humans or other animals\, please do not sign up for this clinic. We ask that you seek advice from a veterinarian.\nThe clinic is indoors in the AWLA Education Room. Waiting is outside\, so please dress appropriately for the weather.\nIf you want a three-year rabies shot\, you must bring proof of prior rabies shot (vet records or rabies certificates only\, or dog licenses only\, tags do not count).\nDistemper shots are based on the age\, and vaccine history of each pet. If you do not bring proof your pet has received this vaccine before and is not past due\, they will need a booster in 2-4 weeks.\nWe do not offer 3 year distemper shots.\n\nAll paperwork for this clinic will be done at the clinic. \nAdditional Information About Rabies Vaccinations\nVirginia law requires that all dogs and cats four months of age and older have a current rabies vaccine. Please bring proof of a prior rabies shot (a rabies certificate\, not a tag) to get a three-year rabies shot. Without it\, your pet will receive a one-year shot. All dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers. \nAdditional Information About Microchipping\nGive your pet the protection of a 24PetWatch MiniChip. Each year thousands of lost and abandoned animals are taken in by shelters and humane societies across the country. Some of these animals never make it home because they cannot be identified. Microchipping offers the only truly permanent method of identifying your pet and linking the animal back to you\, the owner. \n*Dates are subject to change at the discretion of AWLA

DESCRIPTION:Home for the Holidays is back for 2023!\nIf you’re staying in town for the holiday season and have extra room in your home\, you can foster a dog\, cat\, or small companion animal and give them a much-deserved break from their kennels over the holidays! \n\nSome basic supplies will be provided by the shelter – please see the list below – but due to our current supply inventory\, other items will need to be purchased by the foster family.\nFoster families must be able to pick up a pet at the shelter from Dec 20-23\, and be able to keep them in their home until at least Jan 5.\nFoster families must live in Virginia\, Maryland\, or D.C.\, and cannot travel out of the area with their foster pets.\nFoster families must follow all rules and guidelines of our foster program.\nFoster families will be matched up with a pet on a first-come\, first-match basis\, and we cannot guarantee every family interested in taking part will be able to foster a pet.\n\n\nIf you are interested in fostering a pet during our Home for the Holidays event\, please fill out the form below\, and then come to the shelter on your chosen date to be matched up with a pet. Filling out the form does not guarantee a foster placement.
