Now in its fourth year\, Reason to Rock has hosted more than 1\,000 people and raised nearly $40\,000 for charity.

DESCRIPTION:Hands-On Animal Shelter Experience for Teens\nShelter Squad is the Animal Welfare League of Arlington’s (AWLA) premier youth program\, designed for teens ages 13–15 who want meaningful\, hands-on experience helping animals in a professional shelter environment. \nThrough this program\, young animal lovers participate in the day-to-day operations of an animal shelter through age-appropriate activities. Teens work alongside AWLA staff to support animal care\, enrichment\, and shelter operations—building responsibility\, empathy\, and practical skills while making a difference for animals in need. \nWhat Teens Do in Shelter Squad\nParticipants in Shelter Squad gain hands-on experience in real volunteer roles\, including: \n\nProviding enrichment activities for dogs\, cats\, and small animals\nPreparing supplies and organizing animal care areas\nAssisting with cleaning kennels and animal spaces\nSupporting shelter staff with daily tasks that directly benefit animals\n\nAll activities are fully supervised by AWLA staff\, ensuring a safe\, educational\, and positive experience for every participant. \nWho Can Join\n\nAges: 13–15\nExperience Level: No prior volunteer experience required\nGroup Size: 4 participants per session\n\nThis program is ideal for teens who love animals\, are curious about animal care or shelter work\, or want meaningful community service experience. \nProgram Fee\n\n$50 for the first session (includes an official Shelter Squad T-shirt)\n$30 for each additional session\n\nYour initial registration includes a Shelter Squad T-shirt that teens will wear during the program. DESCRIPTION:Become an Animal Ally with AWLA!\nThe Animal Allies Club is a unique educational opportunity for kids ages 10–13 to learn how the Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) makes a difference for animals in our community—and how they can too. \nThrough hands-on activities like service projects\, guest speakers\, crafts\, and games\, participants get a behind-the-scenes look at how the shelter operates.
