Walk A Dog at AWLA

Our Dog Walking Program is currently suspended. Read more here.

We’re often asked by members of the public if they can take one of our dogs out for a quick walk. Well, now you can! Imagine how fun  it could be for you to get to know a shelter dog  and for the dog to get a little break from the shelter!

Our new Dog Walking Program gives our visitors a chance to give a shelter pup a quick walk. Anyone aged 18+ can walk an AWLA dog!*

How It Works:

  1. Visit the shelter on weekdays between 12PM-4PM (except Tuesday).
  2. Pick the eligible dog you would like to walk (they will have special signage) or ask a staff member to pick one for you.**
  3. Sign our dog-walking guidelines and liability release at our adoptions desk
  4. Leave your keys (or valid I.D.) with a staff member. These will be kept in a secured area and returned once you return to the shelter.
  5. Have fun on your walk!

*You can bring a friend, but we cannot guarantee we will have two dogs that can walk together.
**We cannot guarantee that we will have dogs available to walk on any particular day.
