Affectionately known as a “Spicy Cat”, Bert is a smart, sensitive, and deeply interesting companion who’s looking for a very special home that understands him!
Bert is a loving cat at heart, but he experiences the world a little more intensely than most. He enjoys attention and can absolutely be a cuddle buddy on his terms (yes, naps together are on the table), but he can become overstimulated with too much petting. When he’s had enough, he may give “love bites” as a way of communicating. The key to winning Bert over? Learning his body language and practicing consent-based interactions. When you respect his signals, he thrives and trust builds beautifully over time.
This clever boy is also incredibly intelligent and active. Bert loves enrichment: think food puzzles, short interactive play sessions, and activities that keep his mind engaged. He’s basically a little problem-solving pro and will do best in a home ready to keep him mentally and physically fulfilled.
Bert can be sensitive to noise and new environments, so he’ll need a calm, patient household where he can settle in gradually. Starting him in a quiet, small room and slowly expanding his space will help him feel safe and confident. In his previous foster home, which was peaceful and attuned to his needs, Bert made amazing progress and did not shown any high stress. With the right setup and understanding, he truly blossoms!
He’s even learned helpful skills like mat training and target stick training tools that allow gentle, respectful guidance without needing to physically move him if he becomes overwhelmed. He’s also been introduced to harness training, though he prefers familiar, low-stress environments. Bert isn’t your average cat and that’s exactly what makes him special. He’s looking for an adopter who appreciates his complexity, respects his boundaries, and is excited to engage with a bright, quirky, cactus-spicy personality.
