At AWLA, we’re passionate about inspiring the next generation to care for animals, connect with nature, and develop kindness and compassion. Through our engaging school programs, we offer students the opportunity to learn about animals and their welfare in a hands-on, interactive way.

Classroom Visits
AWLA offers in-classroom lessons designed to meet Virginia Public Schools’ Standards of Learning for grades 2-12. Our lessons are customized for your students, focusing on fostering character, kindness, and a deeper understanding of animals. Example lesson topics include: careers with animals, wildlife and animal control, life cycles and animal classifications, social-emotional learning, and more! Whenever possible, our ambassador animals will join us, bringing an extra level of excitement to your classroom experience.
In-classroom lessons are available to all schools in Arlington County or those within close proximity. The cost to reserve a 1-hour program is $50.

Field Trips
Looking for a unique and educational experience for your students? Book a field trip with AWLA!
Field trips last 1.5 hours and include an interactive tour of our facility and a lesson tailored to your group’s interests Field trips are limited to a maximum of 30 students.
The fee to reserve a field trip ranges from $150 to $300, depending on group size. Scholarships are available for Title I schools or if the cost poses a financial barrier. For details, contact mradford@awla.org.
