Home for the Holidays is back for 2023!

If you’re staying in town for the holiday season and have extra room in your home, you can foster a dog, cat, or small companion animal and give them a much-deserved break from their kennels over the holidays!

• Some basic supplies will be provided by the shelter – please see the list below – but due to our current supply inventory, other items will need to be purchased by the foster family.
• Foster families must be able to pick up a pet at the shelter from Dec 20-23, and be able to keep them in their home until at least Jan 5.
• Foster families must live in Virginia, Maryland, or D.C., and cannot travel out of the area with their foster pets.
• Foster families must follow all rules and guidelines of our foster program.
• Foster families will be matched up with a pet on a first-come, first-match basis, and we cannot guarantee every family interested in taking part will be able to foster a pet.

If you are interested in fostering a pet during our Home for the Holidays event, please fill out the form below, and then come to the shelter on your chosen date to be matched up with a pet. Filling out the form does not guarantee a foster placement. If you choose to adopt your foster pet at the end of the foster period, you’ll get 50% off your adoption fee!

AWLA will provide:
Dogs: food, leash, harness.
Cats: food, bowls, litter box, litter, bed, toys.
Small companion animals: enclosure, food, hay and CareFresh bedding (fosters will need to refill these themselves), litter box, enrichment items, bowls.
Due to our current supply inventory, all other items must be purchased by the foster family.
