Amaya is a tender-hearted wallflower with a quiet soul and so much love to give – once you’ve earned her trust. This sensitive girl is still learning that the world isn’t as scary as it seems, and she’s making slow but steady progress every day.
The foster had this to say about Amaya: “Amaya is an incredibly sweet and affectionate love bug who sometimes thinks she’s a lap dog. She frequently comes and asks for pets and belly rubs by nudging our hands. She’s smart and already knows basic commands like sit, down, stay, and paw. She’s very excited to see people in the morning and wants to play, but she’s pretty easygoing as the day goes on. She’s extremely food motivated and will likely do well with more advanced training. She is also housebroken. She is incredibly gentle with us and our baby and has been giving him sweet little toe licks when we allow her.”
While she’s still nervous on walks and shy with handling, Amaya has shown signs of growth – allowing consent-based leash interactions, walking to new spaces with support, and even choosing to approach for gentle affection. She’s not quite ready for the hustle and bustle of the big world yet, but she’s ready for someone kind, patient, and understanding to help her bloom.
Amaya would do best in a quieter home (ideally with a yard or easy outdoor access) and may benefit from living with a calm, confident dog friend after a proper meet. She’s not the dog who will leap into your arms on day one – but give her time and space, and she just might sneak her way into your heart forever.
