AWLA’s Kitten College was established in 2017 to save the lives of neonatal kittens (younger than 8 weeks) from unnecessary euthanasia at area shelters and rescues due to lack of resources. It has become a nationally-recognized program and has saved the lives of thousands in this vulnerable population, thanks to a dedicated team of skilled foster volunteers. In 2020 the Kitten College expanded to include six satellite campuses at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, Anne Arundel County Animal Care and Control, No More Chasing Tails, Middleburg Humane Foundation, Prince William County Animal Shelter, and Prince George’s County Animal Shelter. Each organization receives training and support from AWLA empowering them to meet the needs of their community.
Kitten College Apprenticeship Program
AWLA offers apprenticeships to shelter and rescue staff from all over the country to equip them with the knowledge and skills to establish their own kitten nursery.
Kitten College Foster Program
The strength of AWLA’s Kitten College is its amazing fosters who care for kittens day in and day out.
