Northern Virginia is home to a wide variety of birds, from vibrant cardinals and blue jays to soaring hawks and playful chickadees. Whether you're in a wooded area or just your backyard, birds are a crucial part of our ecosystem, helping with pest control, pollination, and seed dispersal. Their songs and behaviors bring nature to life, offering an easy way to connect with wildlife every day.
What To Do If You Find A Baby Bird

IMPORTANT: Never feed a baby bird unless explicitly directed to do so by AWLA or a licensed wildlife rehabber. They have very specific nutritional and handling needs. It is illegal to raise or keep a wild animal as a pet in Virginia unless you have a State permit. Click here for a list of Virginia wildlife hotlines you can call for assistance outside of AWLA.
