Your support makes it possible for AWLA to help animals in need – like the 14 pigeons and 4 rabbits that our animal control team recently seized from poor living conditions at a property in Arlington.
Last weekend, a concerned resident reported having seen some rabbits that were being kept outdoors during freezing temperatures. We immediately dispatched an animal control officer, who found four adult rabbits living outdoors in very small cages in the side yard of the home. Our officer discussed the situation with the home-owner, who chose to surrender the rabbits into our care. We brought the rabbits back to the shelter where our veterinarian checked them out and we got them settled.
The next day, our animal control officers went back to the home to get more details on the case and discovered a shed that had been converted into a flight cage. Inside were 11 adult pigeons. The shed was very dirty and there was only one bowl of water for all the birds. After another discussion with the homeowners, they surrendered all the birds into our care. Other than being a little underweight, the birds seem to be in good condition and we hope to find a rescue that can take them in and care for them.
While a possible neglect investigation is pending, we now have a big job ahead of us to make sure all of the rabbits and pigeons get the necessary care that they need while they await their new homes. You can help us care for these animals by making a donation today!
