Animal Welfare League of Arlington Announces Transition in Leadership
Arlington, VA – The Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) has announced that Sam Wolbert, President & CEO, will be stepping down from the role effective December 15, 2024. After seven years of dedicated service, Mr. Wolbert will be moving away from Arlington, marking the end of a significant chapter for the organization.
During Mr. Wolbert’s tenure, AWLA has seen remarkable growth and achieved numerous milestones. These include an increase in animal adoptions through an expanded lifesaving mission, the development of a nationally recognized kitten foster program and wildlife resource center, expansion of community support through the community resources team and care clinics, and the enhancement of the behavior and animal training program.
“I am fortunate to have guided AWLA during this period of growth, but the true credit goes to the dedicated Board, staff, volunteers, fosters, donors, and community leaders who made this progress possible,” Mr. Wolbert said in a statement. “Your dedication and passion for our mission to improve the lives of animals and people has been truly inspiring, and I am deeply proud and grateful to have worked alongside you.”
AWLA will now conduct a nationwide search for a successor to lead the organization into a new era. In the coming months, Mr. Wolbert will collaborate with the Board of Directors to oversee a national search for the next President & CEO and, afterwards, will remain involved in a supportive capacity to ensure a seamless transition following his departure.
AWLA Board Chair Tim Denning expressed gratitude for Mr. Wolbert’s contributions: “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I extend our deepest thanks to Mr. Wolbert for his exceptional leadership and dedication to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. Mr. Wolbert’s vision and commitment has driven our organization forward, and his impact will be felt for years to come. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors and look forward to continuing the momentum he has established.”
