The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is pleased to support The Humane Society’s 23rd annual World Spay Day initiative by offering significantly discounted (the lowest prices of the year) spay/neuter vouchers during the month of February to low-income residents of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area who can provide proof of an annual household income not exceeding $60,000.
From February 1 through February 28 (or as long as supplies last), qualified pet owners may purchase vouchers in-person at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, located at 2650 S. Arlington Mill Dr. Arlington, VA 22206 during regular business hours. Vouchers cost: $50 for a dog neuter or spay; $25 for Cat neuter or spay; $25 for a rabbit neuter or spay (very limited quantities).
Last year, thanks to the generous donors to our Spay/Neuter Fund and the participation of our veterinary partners, AWLA helped 78 pets (cats, dogs and rabbits) receive spay/neuter surgeries. This year we look forward to working with seven local animal hospitals: Anicira Vet Center, Arlington Animal Hospital, Caring Hands Animal Hospital of Alexandria, Caring Hands Animal Hospital of S. Arlington, Caring Hands Animal Hospital of Clarendon, Clarendon Animal Care, and NOVA Cat Clinic.
Payment for Spay Day vouchers may be made by cash or credit card (Discover/MasterCard/Visa) and clients must provide proof of household income. (Acceptable forms of proof are: 3 Pay Stubs/W2/Signed Tax Return/Unemployment, Social Security, Worker’s Comp, Veteran’s Benefit Stub.) Vouchers are non-transferable and good for three (3) months from the date of purchase. Clients schedule their own appointments with the vet listed on their voucher after voucher purchase.
Pets must be at least three months old at the time of surgery, and owners must bring their pet’s medical records with them to the surgery appointment. (Without medical records, pets will be given required vaccines and/or tests prior to surgery at the owner’s expense and due upon receipt on the day of the spay/neuter surgery to the veterinary clinic.)
Please note that there may be an added charge for the following: in heat; pregnant; obese; dogs over 100 lbs.; male dogs or cats with cryptorchidism (undescended testicles); female dogs or cats with pyometra (uterine infection); animals infected with fleas; animals over six (6) years of age needing pre-operative blood work. Added charges vary by veterinarian. For questions about world spay day vouchers, please call (703) 931-9241, ext. 200.
