On behalf of the League’s entire staff and Board of Directors, I want to thank you for participating in our 75th Anniversary celebrations! We’re so honored to be the oldest animal welfare organization in Northern Virginia – we couldn’t have done it without your help!
The festivities began last Friday, June 7th when we welcomed more than 50 League staff, volunteers, donors, and supporters to visit our new lobby and hear a County proclamation read in honor of AWLA. We were especially thrilled that, among the many guests in attendance, were representatives from the Arlington County Fire Department, County Board Member Matt de Ferranti, and Arlington Chamber President & CEO, Kate Bates.
The party, though, was just beginning!
On Saturday, June 8th, we hosted our annual Walk for the Animals here at the shelter. More than 700 people participated in one of our largest and most successful Walks ever! Thanks to supporters like you, we raised more than $92,000 to help save the lives of animals in need! We would especially like to thank County Board Member Katie Cristol and Delegate Alfonso Lopez for their kind remarks, and recognize our top sponsors: Clarendon Animal Care, Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Dogma Bakery, Fur-Get Me Not, Northwest Federal Credit Union, Shirlington Animal Hospital and The Kiger Group.
If you weren’t able to attend, we still cordially invite you to visit the shelter and see all the great work we’ve done – and continue to do.
To everyone who has supported us since 1944, and those who continue to support us today, thank you. Here’s to another 75 years (and more) of improving the lives of animals in Arlington County and beyond!
Sincerely,
Sam Wolbert, President & CEO
