If you’re anything like me, this time of year has you immersed in reflection.
Despite the tumultuous events over the past twelve months, I hope we can all take some time to celebrate positive things, as little as they may seem. Whether that sounds like “I got to know my family a lot better” or “I became a better cook” or “I fostered an animal in need” or even just “I’m hanging in there”, it is all worth celebrating.
What little things are you celebrating?
I have so many little things to celebrate this year, but Sadie’s story, in particular, warms my heart.
Before coming to AWLA, Sadie lived her life outside on a chain. Then we learned that she had shockingly given birth to ELEVEN puppies! But at just barely a year old, Sadie proved to be a strong, amazing mama and kept all of her pups healthy. And thankfully one of our stellar foster families agreed to take in and care for Sadie and all of her puppies.
Over the weeks, they took great care of Sadie, and Sadie took great care of her puppies. And once the puppies had grown big and strong, they were placed in smaller groups in new foster homes, giving Sadie some well-deserved time to be a puppy herself!
All eleven puppies have since gone to their new homes, and Sadie awaits her spay surgery before she begins the next chapter of her life free of her chain with a loving family.
YOU make it possible for AWLA to continue this life-saving work.
I am beyond grateful that, when everything shut down, my work in animal sheltering was still considered essential. I am grateful for the more than 1,000 people who offered to foster an animal in need. I am grateful for the magical volunteers who stepped up to support our foster program so much that it is thriving, despite everything that 2020 has thrown at us.
And, because of your generosity, we will celebrate even more little things (and big things) in 2021…together.
Happy Holidays, and cheers to the little things!
