Phew – we made it!
We’re eager to flip the calendar ahead and celebrate a fresh start…but only for a moment because we know the work is just beginning.
Our mission is to improve the lives of animals and people by providing resources, care, and protection, and both the people and animals in our community need us now more than ever. The scars from 2020 will be long-lasting, and in some cases, permanent. The pandemic brought economic uncertainty, altered major life events, and resulted in the loss of loved ones.
It has affected everyone, including animals in need and the people who love them. But that’s where we come in.
At AWLA, we take pride in being an animal resource center that offers robust safety net programs, including our pet support pantry, the H.E.L.P. program (Housing Emergency Lifeline for Pets, previously Safekeeping), Ross-Roberts Veterinary Assistance grants, and so much more.
These programs have been critical in keeping pets and families together throughout the pandemic, and we will continue to extend the reach of these services as we move into 2021 by launching the brand new OneHealth clinic.
In collaboration with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and with a grant from Petsmart Charities, the OneHealth clinic will combine partnerships from animal welfare, social services, and public health to create a wide range of offerings that help to keep pets and people healthy, and together.
We’re excited to take on this new endeavor and to continue the good work you make possible. Thank you so much for your generosity and support throughout this turbulent year. We can’t wait to do more good together.
Sam Wolbert, AWLA President
