The Paws & Read program is currently on hold.

Paws & Read at AWLA

Children and young teens from kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to “Paws and Read” with our adoptable cats and small companion animals.

How to Participate

To participate, all readers may visit the shelter* on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday from 12pm-6pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 12pm- 3pm. Readers are able to choose a book from the AWLA’s selection of stories or bring one from home. Then, readers can sit down besides an animal’s condo and read to them for 20 minutes.

For the safety of our animals and readers, we ask that there be one parent or guardian present to supervise a reading group of up to 3 children**.

What Does it Cost?

There is no fee or sign-up required to participate in AWLA’s Paws & Read Program. Simply visit the AWLA during the hours listed above, sign a liability form at each visit, and start reading!

Paws & Read Challenge

On the first visit, readers can choose a bookmark that will be stamped at each reading visit. As you collect more stamps you can receive different prizes.
