I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving last week and enjoyed the satisfaction of a full stomach. If you shopped for the meal, I bet you noticed the increase in the cost of ingredients – up 23.5% since February 2020. Over that same time period, the price of dog food — both dry and wet products combined — has increased by 45.5% on average, according to Veterinarians.org.
At AWLA, the effect of higher prices for human and pet food is apparent in the number of pet families who rely on our Pet Pantry to make ends meet. This year we provided 6,948 pets with free food and supplies. We distributed 30,410 pounds of dry food and 28,322 cans of wet food at on- and off-site locations, and we could have provided more if we had more to give.
That’s why this Giving Tuesday we are asking you to donate to our Pet Pantry, so that we may continue to support pets and pet families in our community and save them from having to re-home or surrender their animals due to the cost of pet food and supplies. Your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $6,000 thanks to our Board of Directors. Can I count on you to donate to our Pet Pantry today?
Sincerely,
Jennifer Davies
