From the looks of it, Kelvin had been having a rough go of it when a woman saw him all alone, wandering through her backyard. One of his legs appeared to be injured and his eyes were terribly inflamed. The woman brought Kelvin to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) and asked if we could help. We were able to say “yes!” without question thanks to caring friends like you. While it breaks my heart to think of this little guy all alone in the world, it gives me great hope to know that there are kind people like you who are willing to help.
Kelvin certainly needed our help. He had a severe wound on his back left leg, swollen eyes, an upper respiratory infection, and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Our vet discovered that Kelvin’s swollen eyes were due to a condition called Entropion, where the eyelids turn inward, causing the eyelashes to rub against the eye surface. In Kelvin’s case, this resulted in severe irritation and infection in both eyes. He needed eye surgery, antibiotics, pain medication, wound care, and time to heal. Despite his pain, Kelvin sweetly asked for pets as he purred and “made biscuits.”
Kelvin took the time he needed to recover in the comfort of a caring foster home. After two surgeries, many wound dressings, countless medications, and lots of rest –Kelvin was a brand-new cat. While still gentle and kind, he displayed a new goofy, playful side. It was a joy to see. I’m thrilled to share with you that Kelvin (now Koopa) was adopted! Thanks to friends like you, he won’t be in pain and wandering on his own ever again. His adopter shared this adorable photo and the following: “Koopa is an adorable ball of energy that keeps my life fun and full of love.” Koopa has come a long way. All thanks to supporters like you.
Thank you so very much for your compassion. You mean everything to the homeless animals in our care.
